The two shows I was excited about, but disappointed in are Feud (Capote vs. The Swans) and the TV series remake of the Angelina Jolie x Brad Pitt movie, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I wanted to love both – Feud has an all-star cast of fabulous women, and while I found the acting strong, the storyline dragged, and I struggled to like or root for any of the characters. I so wanted to love this!

Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the movie, is a favorite of mine for its action-packed portrayal of a couple of assassins in an unhappy marriage and I was thrilled to watch this remake, especially because Sharon Horgan, Sarah Paulson, and Parker Posey cameo, BUT – and this may be because I’m Gen X and not the target demographic - while Angie and Brad smoldered in the original, I detected zero to no chemistry between Maya Erskine and Donald Glover in the remake. More complaints: not enough death-defying action! Way too much talking!

I really like the Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot but absolutely can see why it didn't work for you! I love the subversion of the original in that it's much more interested in and focused on the relationship and not so much on the Spy Stuff (and I love all the talking, lol). I agree that their chemistry is not as electric as it was in the movie version, but I also think that works here, since the two characters feel like deeply lonely people trying to figure it all out. I am also, admittedly, a millennial, and there is something distinctly millennial about the reboot.

I'm so glad you like it - I WISH I did! I think it's very millennial-focused - unlike the movie which was more about marriage, mores, and suburban life for Gen X (and boomers to a certain extent).

A testament to how art changes depending on when it's made (and who is making it)!

For sure - what I do like about the reboot is that it authentically appeals to a new audience instead of just making a new version that absolutely no one likes!

No!!! I'm gonna watch Feud, especially for the costumes and will report back. I weirdly felt the storyline might drag from the trailers.

maybe you'll like it? maybe I wasn't in the right mood? I actually feel very bad about not liking it as I really, really looked forward to it but found that it put me to sleep!

Mood is definitely a factor. I'll let you know!
