It’s the first day of October, and for many of us, the next few months will be rife with invitations: children’s birthday parties, school events, office holiday gatherings, and family celebrations.
I strive to be a good guest (I want to be invited back!), and I know hosts appreciate quick, decisive responses. Often, this is easy: if the invitation is from a close friend or family member, it’s a no-questions-asked yes!
However, when an event is weeks or months away and my calendar is clear, but I suspect a conflict may arise, I hesitate and waffle. I don’t want to say yes and cancel later: as a host, if this happens, I feel let down!
