Happy Friday Five!
Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
I am so glad Mrs. Maisel is back! One of my favorite things about Midge is that she is both disciplined and creative. For most of my life I believed the myth that you can’t be both; and because I happen to be an organized, get-things-done type, that therefore I couldn’t possibly become a writer. Watching Mrs. Maisel forge a career in comedy reminds me that I too can be organized, disciplined, creative and bold.
My new stash of underwear.
I finally dealt with my ratty underwear – some of which I’ve been wearing for a decade. I recently bought 10 new pairs of panties and one new comfy bra, and each day when I put on my new, hole-free underwear, I feel a little thrill!
The BEST compliment.
One day this week, while discussing his homework, my 11-year-old, Teddy, off-handedly mentioned that he was sure I would publish a book one day. He said it matter-of-factly, but for me, it was the highest possible compliment – and vote of confidence. As many of my readers know, I completed a memoir last year but have not found an agent or publisher. I’ve learned that the industry is competitive and tricky! One of my big life goals is to publish a book - either the one I’ve already written or a future book. Hearing my son say he’s sure I will do just that felt very, very good.
Excellent customer service.
My laptop has not been working properly for over a week – it kept randomly disconnecting from Wi Fi. I repeatedly shut it down and restarted, which worked for a while. But yesterday, when it stubbornly refused to connect to Wi Fi even after my gentle coaxing, I knew I needed help. This morning I made a huge cup of tea and psyched myself up for what I assumed would be an unpleasant experience sitting on hold while waiting for “customer service.” Instead, after just 2 minutes on hold, I got Arjun from Dell who patiently spent over an hour on the phone talking me through the process of updating and resetting my network hardware, and gave me his direct e-mail so I could reach out if anything goes wrong again. It was such an unexpected pleasure to find someone who genuinely wanted to help me and I was thrilled to give Arjun a glowing review.
Being prepared for a snow day.
It’s a snow day here today and I am embracing the time at home. I don’t always enjoy snow days – I’m often dealing with disappointment that something I wanted to do or was counting on happening has been canceled. But this time, I was prepared – this blizzard was predicted a few days ago. I planned two lengthy cooking projects (Frankie’s meatballs and Sunday Sauce as well as gluten-free bread); saved up all the laundry to do today; brought in plenty of firewood; and turned off my alarm so I could sleep in.
Hope you’ve had a happy week!
Lots of love,
Amelia
