Happy 50th! And what a treat to take your children back to a place that was so pivotal for you. Can't wait to hear what they think of Greece and the trip overall! Your post reminds me of the summer I spent in Italy during graduate school - life changing for sure. The people, the culture, the architecture and the food... it was amazing. May your trip with your kids be equally so : )

My version of this trip was circa 2004 with a friend—we bought a 30 day North American rail pass on Amtrak and had many adventures, culminating in me kind of sliding down a muddy slope of Mount Royal in Montreal

I dream of rail journeys!! Always wanted to do the Orient Express! Any pics of the muddy slide?!

Your recollections of Greece were such a lovely read! I hope you have a wonderful return trip. And also, you are the second person today to recommend the Second Life episode and I'm sold! Can't wait to listen.

I absolutely adored this look into your past, Amelia! The photos…the reflections on travel from a twentysomething perspective…chef’s kiss.

I, too, voted for you to take next Friday off so that you can enjoy your vacation…but when you’re back, I’m excited to hear and see everything. Have so much fun!

Have a wonderful time! Take the week off but then tell us where you went and what you did the week after. I’m Greek and am so jealous you will be there.

Oooh, this gave me all the warm feels...it was like watching a coming-of-age movie about best friends. 💗 I hope this trip is just as magical, but obviously in a different way. Also: I'm obsessed with those sweatpant/jeans, love those scratch n' sniff stamps that smell like a baguette, and I have to admit I'm SO curious about the Alec Baldwin show! Have an amazing trip! ☀

What a trip! You made me feel nostalgic about my first trip to Europe at 20. I stayed at hostels, ate cheap grocery store sandwiches for every meal, slept in trains or buses to save money, but most of all, it changed my outlook of life.

Have fun!!!

Those low budget travels were the best - we ate watermelon for a lot of meals because we couldn't afford anything else! Eating at a restaurant was a big splurge! Another highlight were the people we met along the way, on the buses and ferries and in hostels - all from a variety of other countries.

Amelia we were traveling Turkey at the same time! Savor every moment and can't wait to hear about it when you get back. Take a rest...and model looking after yourself ♥️♥️

Of course! Did you stay in caves in Cappadocia and treehouses on the coast?!

Of course! And we give a jaunt on a gullet complete with food poisoning. I had two glorious weeks there traveling around on the Fez bus for backpackers.

Oh the food poisoning! We ate fish sandwiches from a truck beside the Bosphorus and regretted it instantly

We love crispy gnocchi in this house! Will definitely have to try that recipe this summer… And although I voted “Take the week off” in your poll, I do eventually want to hear about everything you ate in Greece 😂 We went exactly one year ago yesterday—Athens, Paros, and Santorini—and I can’t wait to go back. I dream of that feta and tzatziki!

I can't wait! So excited for the food - 25 years ago we ate watermelon for countless meals because we had so little $!

The travel we do in our twenties is so magical, isn’t it? I loved reading this, Amelia (and looking at the photos!). Makes me think of my first “big” trip with my friends, at 26, in the Canadian Rockies. Everything felt otherworldly—not just the scenery, which was undoubtedly gorgeous, but the feeling that anything was possible. We could (finally) see a moose, we could get lost in the backwoods, we could fall in love. The best.

I’m so excited for your trip. Have so much fun!

Those bold things we do in our early twenties are so life formative. Can’t believe you found Paris back then! Enjoy

And of course I meant Paros but my phone clearly prefers Paris. We had the best time there and only in recent years is it really on the map. You were cutting edge!
