I always love learning what you are reading and watching, Amelia - and love the pics of you and Sadie :) thank you for offering these fun and happy scribbles - I enjoy them so much! xox
Always look forward to the latest Scribbles!! Good nonfiction is Franklin & Washington - The Founding Partnership by Edward Larson...if you like history. Hi to Sades!
Can we make reviews from Sadie a recurring feature?! She’s got a talent for the short and sweet.
Some ideas for your next read…
- any book by Elinor Lipman: her writing is funny, self-aware, and well-paced
- The Throwback Special by Chris Bachelder: I read this book despite being totally uninterested in the premise (a group of men getting together for their annual NFL play reenactment) and found it extremely entertaining and insightful
- Eligible by Curtis Sittenfield: if you haven’t already read it! A very charming contemporary retelling of Pride & Prejudice
Sadie definitely has the gift of brevity! 😉 Eligible is one of my all time fave books - I actually tried to get Sadie to read it this week but she prefers "classics" to retellings so is now reading Rebecca. The Throwback Special sounds very interesting to me - not what I'd normally choose - thank you!
I read and loved all of this, well before I noticed my essay mentioned at the end—that was touching. Thank you, Amelia! ❤️
You and your daughter are TWINS and I adored her contributions! This is my official reminder that I need to see Anyone But You. My mom and I watched Shark Tank together, so I'm especially intrigued by the Barbara Corcoran interview...she's such a badass.
And your daughter certainly doesn't need any input from someone who went to Georgetown 15+ years ago (😂) but, for what it's worth, I had a wonderful experience there!
I loved your essay and have been thinking about it ever since I read it. ❤️ We toured Georgetown this week and I'll pass on your comment! The Barbara Corcoran interview is fun - she is a firecracker - and Anyone but You is really fun. Everyone in it seemed to be having fun!
Touring colleges with my daughter was so much fun - I wish I could re-live that part of the process instead of where I’m at now (preparing for high school graduation)! Thanks for all the recs. If id known you were going to DC, I would’ve shared all of my family’s favorite food spots there (we live in MD and go to DC often to eat!). Happy (almost) Spring!
Every single parent tells me that college tours were a highlight for them! Good luck with graduation - that sounds fun to me too! We mostly ate in Georgetown but I would have loved recs - next time 😉
Tours were always so much fun, unless it was raining/snowing! We’re in Georgetown a lot…our favorites include Das, Baked & Wired, Tatte, Blue Duck Tavern, and Call Your Mother (bagels). Did you try any of those spots?
“too millennial” 🫠
She does not mince words
Book recco: The Tender Bar
Thank you for your scribbles!
Thank you for the rec - and for reading! ❤️

Thank you for reading and for such kind words ❤️❤️
amelia, u may borrow my copy
Woohoo, thank you!
👍
Glad to hear DEATH AND OTHER DETAILS sticks the landing. I was getting nervous. I have two episodes left I think.
I felt the same way - the last 2 episodes finally bring it all together - the show is nutty but also charming!

amelia, two great reads that are fictionalized but fact based: the netanyahus by josh cohen
and middlesex by jeffrey eugenides.
they are well-written, sometimes laugh-out loud funny but not for everybody, ginny
Thanks Ginny! I loved Middlesex and will put The Netanyahus on my list!
Such a fun post! There is nothing like those mother-daughter road trips/adventures!
It was a good trip - a few iffy moments with the early morning/sleeping in conflict, but overall wonderful!
Oh, yes, this is uplifting, thank you, what I needed, let's get happy!

I think you would enjoy Art Heals (Amazon) has it.
Thanks Liz! I will check it out!
Love this, Amelia! Got a kick out of Sadie’s review of you as a roommate 😆 ❤️
I need to work on my "sleeping in" skills 😂
Ha!
Have you read The Bee Sting? That was one I really liked recently!
I started it and wasn't immediately grabbed - I think the cold Irish weather put me off - I should probably go back to it though!

Great reviews Sadie!
They're short and to the point 😉

“Everyone in it seemed to be having fun” is a really good sign!
right?! I hope you like it!

Ha ha it rained on 2 of our tours this week! We didn't go to any of those but they all sound awesome!
