Loved this! I do a word for the year every year and my word this year is Ease (after last year’s word, Brave, ended up being rather too apt!) love the idea of highlighting specific feelings though - I’m going to sit down tonight and jot some down 😊
This is so cleansing, even though I also have non-emotion-based goals for 2025. I realize I move my body, whether through weightlifting, yoga, or ballet, to ensure I have a joy-filled experience in my daily life and really love the Garten/Oprah mindset of doing the best everyday. Some days call for rest and that should be given 100% too. This line dragged me - "Like many driven, ambitious people, I believed my feelings were a pesky inconvenience I needed to control to achieve my ideal life." Whew.
Thanks so much for reading, Rachel! I basically spent the first half of my life convinced that feelings were to be completely ignored and the only thing that mattered was “thinking.” Paying attention to my body and how it felt, as well as the tiny voice in my head telling me what’s really most important, is an ongoing project!
I haven't thought about the feelings first approach, but it makes so much sense. I love your content and writing style and am confident that you will publish a book someday! In the meantime, thanks for sharing your ideas here. They make my life happier! (Goal = happiness, Mini-step = read more Amelia Wilson)
Lisa, thank you! I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to hear that! I’m adding your comment to my list of nice things people have said to me! Here’s to a wonderful 2025! xo
I find the best feelings all stem from unconditional love. You wouldn’t believe some of the people I love unconditionally. Then again love can be tough sometimes.
Oh my gosh, this really spoke to me. I have been struggling so much lately w/making a career change, not being sure if it's really the right thing for me, and lamenting the loss of peace and centeredness that I (don't) feel. Thank you for this idea (and permission) to put feelings first. That's such an interesting way to think about it it; and one that I think could have a real impact on day-to-day life.
Oh Julia, I hope it helps. Best wishes with your career decision-making. It's so hard to know what the right thing to do is sometimes. I personally LOVE a rule or 2 to keep me on track! Thank you for reading.

Ease is permanently on the list of things I want to feel!
This raised for me enjoy the journey not just the destination - good reminder!
exactly - I just find it extremely hard to do this in practice, so of course, had to create a rule!
Subscribe to PauseDaEditor on YouTube please it is better then my mothers scribbles
it’s equally as great ;)
Love the feelings first approach! I'm a little late in doing up my 2025 goals but I'll be keeping this approach in mind.
Thanks for reading Simran, and I hope this approach is helpful to you!
Yes to emotional responses. I love this idea!
oh yay, so glad you like the idea!

Very relatable! Yay for progress and growth.
Love this. I’m so skeptical of any goal that is dependent on other people (getting published etc.)
Agreed! Especially when it's subjective!
Love the logo!
Yay! More to come...😉

Well you just made my day! Thank you for reading and I hope to continue making you happier! That's really my biggest goal. ❤️
This just may be my favorite goal-related post I've read on Substack since the new year...brilliant + simple!
Always a great read. I look forward to your post every week. It' like a comforting ritual.

That is such a lovely sentiment, Gary. Thank you so much for reading.
You’re welcome
This is brilliant and such a comfort, too. I am copying you right down the line!!
Thank you, Isabel! Here’s to a 2025 filled with all the good feelings, and less dissatisfaction and wanting. xo Amelia
