I dream of family game Friday nights (or any night!) My kids are 10, 14, 16 and 18... I occasionally coerce them to play - it’s tough and after we finally play they roll they’re eyes at the lame game I’ve chosen.🤪🤪 I recently bought schotten totten as the suggestion of a friend. Keep us posted on games y’all are loving. We do enjoy Catan - but it’s a commitment 😂
Does the 10 year old have any games they know and love to explain to everyone else? For us, the only times it really works are when there's peer pressure (we're in public at a restaurant or with another family or relatives) or the game is a fave of one of the kids and they are "driving" the action... I also wonder if tying the game playing activity to another fun treat (like dessert or a later bedtime) might also help make it happen. Good luck!
I have no answers (yet; going to try to adopt a pickleball hobby with my boyfriend to wean ourselves off TV evenings!) but had to say how much I enjoyed this wisdom: “There is absolutely zero moral obligation to play difficult European board games.” 🔥
Agreed! Feeling like we have to play impressively complicated games is a total "should!" And I'm a big fan of sports - group lessons or games - as a way to get exercise, be social, and have fun!
We have a few rules at our house: no phones at the dining tables, and no “double-screen time” - if we’re watching tv, that’s the only screen in-use. I love family board game night (it lasts an hour, tops, but that’s better than nothing!). Puzzles are also a great non-screen family activity.
I like your no double screen time rule - we often all sit in front of the TV with our phones in our hands and we should stop that! I think it's totally fine for game night to be relatively quick - those memories last forever! 😉

I love these suggestions! Gonna try them with my kids over winter break!
Good luck! A little family game time goes a long way! 😉

Exactly - the game nights are priceless!
