This is why I love you. Such a clever idea. We do a check-in with our kids too but I am taking notes because yours is more robust than mine have been (we started them when the twins were little on the way to birthday parties 🥳).
so smart to do on the way to birthday parties! this works for any activity that involves high expectations and the potential for conflicting feelings! thank you so much for reading, Marcia!
Ummm, I am the trip planner. I hate it. I meltdown at some point during our trips. What has helped is having the others plan a day or a meal or pick a restaurant. I relinquish control, and that helps a bit.
Also traveling without one's family is awesome. :o) Just went on a solo trip then met up with college friends. Priceless.
Love this. My husband and I actually do this on Friday nights now once the kids are in bed! We run through our week, the next week, and how we're feeling about everything, then we watch TV. It always feels so good to do
My husband and I always did this on Saturday mornings, over coffee. As the kids woke up and wandered into the room, we added them to the check-in as well.
Merch!
Inspired by you!
😊
Sent this to my fam before our big Europe trip this summer! 🛳️
I hope it helps - it's been a great strategy for us!
What a dreamy trip, Amelia! I love traveling with my 5-year-old. Since travelling with her, we have slowed down and truly lived the destination.
Traveling with kids really does change the way you do it!

I hear you! I actually like traveling completely alone, too! Family trips are so tricky - all the FEELINGS!
It is lovely just worrying about yourself sometimes...
And so needed!
Enjoy your trip and congratulations to Sadie on graduation. Has it already happened. So exciting.❣️
thank you! graduation is next weekend and we travel in mid-June! lots to look forward to!

It truly is a useful communication technique - we used to only focus on logistical things - now we talk about feelings too ❤️

So sweet! I can picture it!
I love this! I realized I DO do this, I just haven’t put words to it, nor have I been consistent.
It's so helpful - and honestly, not just on trips! It's really a communication technique for times when things are stressful/busy.
