I love keeping lists. They help me make sense of life and keep track of lessons I’ve learned, so that I don’t endlessly repeat my mistakes. For example, after every family trip, I make a note of what worked and what didn’t, to help with future planning.
One of my favorite lists is of little things that make my life better. I believe that most of the time, it’s the small things that bring the greatest delight to everyday life, so, in addition to this week’s recommendations, I thought it would be fun to share a few of my life enhancing tips and tricks!
And, of course, I’m curious: what small things make your life better?!
Herb bouquets. Lately, instead of flowers, I’ve been putting fragrant fresh herbs in vases, and it’s lovely—especially in the kitchen! At this time of year, my garden is overflowing with mint, basil, dill, oregano, and thyme, and we can’t possibly eat it all. Herbs bring their delightful clean scent inside, feel casual and summery, plus, they’re cheaper than flowers at grocery stores and farmers markets, if you don’t have a garden!
Whipped cream sunscreen. My kids thought this sunscreen was fake when I showed it to them, but it’s absolutely real! The consistency is nice, the coconut smell is nostalgic, and it makes applying sunscreen fun. I also loved this piece on the origins of the company that makes it, and their retro branding.
Lavender oil. I keep a small bottle of lavender oil in each bedroom, and sprinkle a few drops on rugs when things start smelling a little musty—like after we return from trips. Lavender, of course, is antimicrobial and helps induce sleep, among many other benefits!
